Metamorphic evolution of the Great Slave Lake shear zone

چکیده
The Palaeoproterozoic Great Slave Lake shear zone (GSLsz) is a crustal-scale strike-slip structure, with total length of >1,000 km and width ~25 km, that separates the Archean Rae cratons. range metamorphic rocks now exposed at surface encompasses granulite facies mylonite through to lower-greenschist ultramylonite cataclasite, providing potential type example fault-zone structure in middle lower crust. However, evolution units remains poorly quantified, hindering detailed structural tectonic interpretations. Here, we use phase equilibria modelling thermobarometry determine conditions recorded by pelitic, mafic felsic GSLsz mylonites. Samples from entire granulite–greenschist preserve evidence for nested clockwise pressure–temperature paths are consistent single orogenic cycle. Our findings indicate northern margin underwent pervasive crustal thickening peak pressures metasedimentary reaching ~1.1 GPa. thermal gradient onset was ~650°C/GPa, whereas final stages equilibrium fine-grained matrix minerals all samples collectively define field ~1,000°C/GPa. Deformation microstructures main dextral having been synchronous or following metamorphism. history metamorphism exhumation Sibson–Scholz model zones, narrowing deforming progressive overprinting higher-grade assemblages during shallower levels.

Metamorphic evolution of high-pressure Quartz Schists in the Chadegan metamorphic complex, Sanandaj-Sirjan zone, Iran
The Chadegan metamorphic complex is a WNW-ESE- trending antiformal structure located in Sanandaj-Sirjan structural zone, Iran. The inner core of the structure is made of orthogneiss, containing eclogitic lenses. Schists and marbles lie structurally above theorthogneiss and crop out in the external limbs of the antiformal dome. Two main deformational episodes have been documented in theschists an...
متن کاملA 3D Hydrodynamic Lake Model: Simulation on Great Slave Lake
Large lakes are recognized as an important influence on the circulation of the atmosphere; in return the resulting meteorological forcing also affects the lake thermal structure. This interaction is complex and continues to be a critical issue considering the millions of lakes in Canada, many of which are large, and are unaccounted for in the current climatic models. This paper evaluates the pr...

the study area is located at the sanandaj-sirjan zone in the west and north-west of azna and north-east of doroud, iran. the quartz-schists are divided into two main groups: amphibole-quartz schist and garnet-quartz schist. field and microstructural studies show several deformational phases. the d1 episode which is represented by s1, matches with m1 metamprphism and d2 deformation matches with ...
متن کاملPhenotypic Diversity of Lake Trout in Great Slave Lake: Differences in Morphology, Buoyancy, and Habitat Depth
—Little is known about the phenotypic diversity of lake trout Salvelinus namaycush in large North American lakes outside the Laurentian Great Lakes. This study tested the hypothesis that phenotypic diversity in Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada, is associated with water depth, as was observed during similar studies of lake trout in Lake Superior. We describe the association of bod...
